Dr. Laurie Philipps is the founder of NeuroHealth. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biological Psychology and English Literature from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Pediatric Neuropsychology from The University of Iowa. She completed fellowships in the areas of Developmental Disabilities and Pediatric Neuropsychology at The University of Iowa Medical Center, Departments of Pediatrics and Neurology, and subsequently completed her residency in pediatric psychology and neuropsychology at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center/Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Philipps has held faculty and clinical appointments at The University of Chicago Medical Center, Rush Medical Center/Rush Medical College, Northern Illinois University, the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, and in the Advocate Healthcare System. She also served as the Dean of Students at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Philipps is an invited lecturer at a number of academic institutions and professional societies, and she is a member of the training committee for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She has also published numerous original research articles.

Dr. Philipps is a Fellow of the American Board of Psychological Specialties, with certifications in the areas of pediatric and adult neuropsychology and pediatric and adult forensic psychology. She has been on the medical staff of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital since 1993. She has also held previous medical staff appointments at The University of Chicago Medical Center, Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Philipps specializes in direct school consultation and advocacy for patients at NeuroHealth, assisting children, adolescents, and their families in obtaining and retaining 504 Accommodation Plans, as well as Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in both public and private school settings. She also provides direct school advocacy for students whose special education needs require a Private Therapeutic Day School Placement.

Dr. Philipps’ areas of expertise include pediatric and adult psychological, neuropsychological, and forensic assessment, as well as treatment and case management of pediatric and adult autism-spectrum disorders, learning disorders, developmental disorders, neurologic disorders, anxiety, OCD, depression, bipolar disorders, and behavioral disorders. Dr. Philipps also has experience and expertise with neurocognitive remediation of executive function and memory disorders. She embraces a systems approach to assessment and treatment, providing both marital and family interventions as well.

Livia Balaban, M.A. obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Biopsychology from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia, her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois, and is a current Doctoral Degree Candidate in Clinical Psychology at Adler University.

Her areas of clinical service provision include neuropsychological and psychological testing, therapy, and consultation with children, adolescents, adults, and their families.

Areas of clinical experience and expertise include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Autism-Spectrum Disorders (including Asperger’s Syndrome and Pervasive Developmental Disorders), depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, ADHD, Learning Disabilities, traumatic brain injury, concussions, and seizure disorders.

Ms. Balaban also has particular expertise with assessment of and interventions with college students.

Previously, Ms. Balaban has provided clinical services at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, The Family Institute at Northwestern University, Northeastern Illinois University Counseling Center, Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta, Georgia, Midwest Asian Health Association in Chicago, Illinois, University of Illinois Institute for Juvenile Research, and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta B.R.A.I.N. Program.

Post-Doctoral Fellow

Dr. Pia Holec received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Master’s and Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Holec completed her clinical internship at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospital in New York, NY. Prior to joining NeuroHealth she has previously worked at Hartgrove Hospital and Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. She also has several years of experience in crisis intervention work with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Holec’s areas of clinical practice include psychological and neuropsychological testing, as well as individual, family, and couples therapy with children, adolescents, and adults. Her areas of expertise include: addictions, personality disorders, cultural diversity, sexual dysfunction, complex trauma, PTSD, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, and anxiety. While she primarily practices from a systems theoretical approach, Dr. Holec has also received intensive training in both CBT and DBT. She believes that treatment should be integrative and specific to the needs of the individual, family, and/or couple.

Therapist and Neuropsychology Technician

Lynette Stegner, M.A. has been providing clinical services to patients and their families at NeuroHealth since 2012. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science degree in psychology at Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois and her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her pediatric and adolescent psychological assessment and treatment internship at Breisch Psychological Services in Loves Park, Illinois. She is currently completing her doctoral degree (Psy.D.) in clinical psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Lynette has also served as a therapeutic counselor at the Adventure Camp Program in Oak Brook, Illinois, a therapeutic camp for children and adolescents with selective mutism. Lynette has extensive experience with developmental, psychological, and neuropsychological assessment and treatment of preschoolers, elementary aged-children, adolescents, and adults presenting with a variety of concerns/challenges, including learning disorders, neurologic disorders, developmental/autism-spectrum disorders, selective mutism, anxiety, OCD, depression, and bipolar disorder. She has a systems focus in terms of treatment and case management of the individual; therefore parents and other pertinent family members/caregivers are always integrated into the therapeutic process with children and adolescents, and with adults as indicated by the presenting concerns. Lynette is well-versed in a variety of therapeutic approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, and interpersonal methods which allows her to customize her approach to treatment to best meet the needs of children, adolescents, and their families.
